Abstract

Technological transformations intensified by the expansion of digital technologies and the popularization of generative artificial intelligence have significantly changed the ways of creating, learning, teaching and sharing knowledge. In creative fields — including Visual Arts, Design, Fashion and Art and Technology — these changes challenge traditional understandings of authorship, creativity, cultural production and professional education. In this context, this article addresses the following question: what is still worth teaching in contemporary creative fields? The study adopts a qualitative, analytical and essay-based approach grounded in bibliographic review and reflections derived from the author’s teaching experience in different higher education contexts. The central argument is that the most significant transformation underway does not concern the replacement of teaching by technology, but the redefinition of the role of teaching in a context marked by informational abundance, increasing automation of technical processes and the reconfiguration of creative practices. The article argues that education in creative fields progressively shifts from content transmission toward practices of cultural mediation aimed at meaning-making and at developing critical thinking, imagination, aesthetic sensitivity, ethical reflection and the ability to formulate relevant problems. It concludes that the most meaningful educational innovation lies not in technologies themselves, but in reaffirming the human dimension of education in increasingly technology-mediated environments.
