Resumo

Este artigo analisa o processo de confinamento dos hansenianos (“leprosos”) no Hospital/Colônia Santa Teresa durante os anos de 1937 a 1940. O ano de 1937 marca o início das políticas saneadoras do Estado Novo, que visavam segregar os portadores de hanseníase em asilos-colônia. Acreditava-se que com o isolamento dos comunicantes, de forma compulsória, seria possível eliminar os focos da hanseníase. Assim, neste mesmo ano, junto ao processo de cooptação dos “doentes”, iniciou-se as construções da Colônia Santa Teresa. Este processo se estendeu até 1940, ano de sua fundação. A estrutura montada, objetivava estabelecer um espaço de convívio similar ao que os internos poderiam ter fora do espaço clínico. Desta forma, criou-se uma série de mecanismos com intuito de regular e persuadir os internos a permanecerem neste espaço. Os desdobramentos sociais resultantes deste modelo de política de saúde são o foco desta discussão.

Abstract: This article analyzes the process of confinement of the "leprous" in the Hospital/Colony Santa Teresa during the years of 1937 to 1940. The year of 1937 marks the beginning of the improving politics of the “Estado Novo”, that they aimed at to segregate the carriers of “leprous” in asylum-colony. One gave credit that with the isolation of the “sick people” of obligatory form it would be possible to eliminate the “leprous”. Thus, in this exactly year, together to the process of capture of the " sick people ", initiated the constructions of the Colony Santa Teresa. This process if extended up to 1940, year of its foundation. The mounted structure, objectified to establish a space of similar conviviality to that the interns could have outside of the clinical space. Of this form, a series of mechanisms with intention of regulating was created and persuading the interns to remain in this space. The resultant social unfoldings of this model of health politics are the focus of this quarrel.
