Abstract

This article presents a survey carried out with a sample of Brazilian smartphone users (n=350), aged at least 18 years, through the application of a questionnaire with the purpose to relate demographic characteristics, habits and the perception of discomfort during the use. The results indicate that people who use it for longer, females and those who already have some musculoskeletal symptoms notice more discomfort while using the device. It was also identified that people under 50 years of age are more exposed to biomechanical overloads due to the forms of handling the device and the excessive use of apps such as WhatsApp and Instagram.
