Apotheke Journal Announcement: Change in Publication Frequency

2025-10-11

Apotheke Journal celebrates its 10-year trajectory in 2025, a decade of work fostering national and international networks dedicated to circulating quality artistic and scientific production. This intensive work is the result of the commitment of editors, reviewers, layout designers, scholarship holders, and collaborators who, over these years, have kept alive the construction of a space for reflection and sharing between art, education, and research.

Upon reaching this milestone, the journal begins a new editorial cycle. Starting in 2026, it will adopt the continuous publication model, replacing the previous quarterly frequency.

What changes in practice?

From 2015 to 2025, Apotheke Journal had a quarterly frequency, publishing one annual volume composed of three issues, which were organized around a specific theme. From 2026 onwards, approved works will be published in one annual volume no longer consisting of three separate issues. This volume will be divided into sections, such as:

  • Continuous Flow: Articles in the area of Visual Arts and their connections with teaching and learning, resulting from research and artistic and educational practices reflected theoretically.

  • Visual Essays: The visual essay is a form of knowledge where aesthetic language and poetics become central to the argument. It is a hybrid format that thinks through images and design.

  • Thematic Section: Consists of original articles dealing with themes previously defined by the Editors of Apotheke Journal. Each year the thematic section will have new calls for papers.

We emphasize that Continuous Publication (or rolling pass) is an editorial model in which articles are published individually throughout the year, as soon as the submission and evaluation, revision, layout, and DOI assignment processes are completed. This way, it is not necessary to wait for the closure of an issue to publish the set of articles (as happens in the quarterly format). This makes the process more agile, increases the visibility of research, and reinforces Apotheke Journal's commitment to editorial innovation and open access.
